What price should I sell my gear at?

Back to the FAQ

As a rule, second-hand gear sells for less than the price you paid for it new. The exception is rare goods that gain value over time, which fencing equipment is not. The value of your used gear depends on a few main criteria:

1) Condition and whether the item still works properly: if your equipment has barely been used and is close to new, it has kept a fair share of its value.

2) The age of the item: if you bought a weapon twenty years ago, standards and technology have most likely moved on, however well you looked after it. Check that the item can still be used.

3) How many similar items are listed, and at what price: if your equipment is rarely offered second-hand and much sought after, it is worth more. If an item is widely available, right-handed gloves for instance, it is better to stay reasonable on price if you want a quick sale. Take supply and demand into account.

  1. If your price is negotiable, say so in the description. It encourages potential buyers to get in touch.
